School Photos

Schools bring photographers in every year, and they all deliver similar results. I’m on a quest to reinvent the school picture.

It’s simple: Just let children, be children

I’ve been warned that some people are nostalgic about the classic school picture and don’t like change. I’m taking baby steps to reinvent school portraits. First, I introduce monochromatic prints but still offer colour which gets an overall good response. The second change is omitting the paper backdrop and using the school grounds. I found the advantage of the fresh air beneficial to not having headshots that resemble a stuffiness of tightly controlled passport photos.

I leave children to do what they do best, that is; be kids, play, and have fun. I capture a moment.

Today was brilliant seeing some familiar faces, meeting new amazing individuals and creating some fun and modern school portraits. I enjoyed listening and chatting with the children. I found out who has inspiring dreams to become Ireland’s next top president and whose Halloween costumes are in the throes of being made. What a great day we all had and looking forward for Monday’s family school photos.
